GO WITH SOPHIE WILDE TO GUCCI SS24

After the world’s adoration of Alessandro Michele’s reign, stakes were high for Sabato De Sarno’s debut — and he did not disappoint. We got the inside scoop from the Australian actress, who took us to Milan for the history-making show.

One of the most highly anticipated events of the season, Gucci’s SS24 collection proved that the show truly must go on — in more ways than one. After a quick venue change to account for a rainy forecast, Sabato De Sarno’s debut as Creative Director ushered in a new era of the heritage label — a post-Alessandro Michele Gucci that looked back to its Italian roots for something fresh. With elegant staples and an emphasis on craftsmanship, the collection reinterpreted iconic pieces from the brand’s past — such as Tom Ford’s ’60s-meets-‘90s silhouettes and the classic Jackie bag — as a way to look forward to the future.

We had the pleasure of hearing from Sophie Wilde about her experience attending the show, her thoughts on the collection, and her go-to necessities for Milan Fashion Week.

Hey Sophie! The Gucci show today, what an experience, how did it feel?
Exciting, so happy to be here in Milan and to be part of such an epic new journey for Gucci and Sabato. I feel honoured!

Did you have any expectations or ideas for what Sabato’s debut collection as Creative Director would be like?
I got a sneak peek in the fitting, as he wanted everyone to have a piece of his own collection, mixed in with their personal stamp. Which felt different, it wasn’t full looks, as it would usually be for shows. We could all add our own touch.

What’s your one go-to necessity for fashion week?
I’m based in Sydney – so sleep! I love being in Europe, I love it here but it’s a change in time zones for sure!

What makes a collection or a show stand out to you?
For a show, when you can see the vision of the designer. You can picture yourself in the clothes. When the elements come together, the clothes, the music, the atmosphere – it evokes emotions.
