As they prepare for their biggest concert yet — headlining at London’s legendary Alexandra Palace — Sheffield-based metal band While She Sleeps sets the tone for a powerful performance with the release of their new single “SELF HELL”. This song is the title track to their long-awaited sixth studio album, which is set to be released on March 15th, 2024.
Drawing upon a diverse set of influences such as Aphex Twin, Gorillaz, Bicep, The Prodigy, and Kendrick Lamar, the new album promises to be a wider miscellany of musical inspirations, creating a sonic collage of each member’s personal passions. With heavy and deep riffs, thumping beat grooves, and a range of vintage synths, “SELF HELL” feels like a reinvigorating debut from a band that has matured immensely over the past decade. The single showcases the sonic leap forward that While She Sleeps is taking with the album, channeling a nothing-to-lose and everything-to-gain spirit.
Reflecting on the album, Sean Long says, “The name of the album is the foundation of how we view ourselves and the world. Everyone has a subjective experience like no other. Yet, the constant that binds us is the differences between us and the realization that we all suffer in our own ways. Don’t be too quick to judge and demonise; your time will come for either redemption or damnation.”
