“all of me” marks a completely new chapter for narciso rodriguez fragrances, 20 years after you created your first fragrance. What made you want to create a new fragrance now, and what was your inspiration?
I had wanted to create a new fragrance for the past 6 years. I gave it a lot of thought, much like the creation of for her. When I started both processes, they began with great passion and a quest to create something truly unique. I used my personal musc as the inspiration but felt that to create a new and modern fragrance it needed to capture the many facets of a woman’s personality. A woman who is bold and confident, and personifies the same kind of grace and rare beauty that has always been an inspiration to my process.

How did the creative process for “all of me” begin?
I am constantly looking for and finding new ingredients and oils and making combinations that I put in a diffuser in my children’s bedroom. Their bedroom has become my lab and it’s a family tradition now that they sleep with a new variant of my experiments every night. One of these variants was a beautiful, natural, and rich mix of geranium, rose, sandalwood and musc. I was completely mesmerised by it and tried many different variations of the ingredients before I shared them with the perfumers. It felt completely unique – different from anything that I had ever experienced.

What kind of woman do you envisage wearing “all of me”?
The “all of me” woman is confident, self-possessed, bold and free-spirited.

What role do you think fragrance plays in the lives of the “all of me” generation?
Fragrance has a captivating power, regardless of age, but for today’s generation self-expression and embracing individuality is so much more important. Fragrance can play a huge part in that, and I wanted all of me to be a celebration of the facets that make each person unique.

How does the fragrance celebrate and express the idea of individuality?
Celebrating women is at the heart of everything I do, but it was important for me that the new fragrance embrace the characteristics that make every woman unique. This is expressed in “all of me”’s heart of musk, which transforms with the skin, creating a completely unique scent on each person that wears it. The bottle’s unique, faceted design also expresses this idea, symbolising the many facets that make up every individual woman.

What kind of emotions would you like “all of me” to create in those who wear it? How do you want them to feel?
I want them to feel an all-consuming beauty and sensuality. But above all, I want them to feel confident and empowered to embrace every aspect of their own unique identity.

How would you describe the “all of me” fragrance?
Beautiful, powerful, distinctive, seductive, bold, modern, unique.

What do you think makes all of me distinctively ‘Narciso Rodriguez’?
“all of me” is distinctively Narciso Rodriguez because of its uniquely seductive powers, and the way it becomes one with the skin and celebrates the person wearing it. The signature heart of musc continues to be the soul of the scent, but in all of me it is enveloped by deep, rich geranium and rose. This is something I have never done with a fragrance before.

Musc has become the iconic signature of all of your fragrances. Why is musc still so important to you, and how does “all of me” reinterpret this signature?
To me, musc is the most sensual of all scents. The idea that it smells differently on each person is something I find fascinating. I think that is why I still find musc so attractive and inspiring.

There are many preconceptions about florals in perfumery. How does “all of me” reimagine floral fragrances for a new generation?
One of “all of me”‘s key ingredients is geranium. This is a flower that is traditionally used in men’s cologne and rarely seen in women’s fragrances. I was seeking to create a floral fragrance that was both modern and completely abstract. Geranium lends a modernity to all of me that is not usually associated with floral fragrances.

Rose is central to the composition of “all of me”. Why did you want this flower to be the starting point for your new fragrance?
Rose has such an iconic and beautiful scent. I wanted to capture the beauty and complexity of a rose in a completely new, modern, and abstract way.

Mica Argañaraz is the face of v. Why did you choose Mica to represent your new fragrance, and how does she embody its qualities?
I chose Mica as the face of all of me because she has this really cool confidence. She is warm, charismatic, and comfortable in her own skin. She has a unique sense of style that is all her own. These are all qualities I admire and wanted to embrace with the new fragrance.

Your fragrances always have very iconic bottle designs. How did you approach creating the bottle for all of me and what was the inspiration behind it?
I was seeking to create a form that was both distinct from and harmonious with the for her and NARCISO bottles. “all of me”’s prismatic bottle is an evolution of these rectangular forms, yet completely different. I wanted to keep the architectural spirit of my designs, while bringing a very feminine facet. all of me celebrates beauty in uniqueness and I wanted the bottle to embody that as well.

The key ingredients in “all of me” are more responsibly sourced. Why is this important to you, and what role do you think this will play for Narciso Rodriguez parfums going forwards?
This was very important for me and the team, because we want to make sure that the ingredients used in our fragrances minimise their environmental impact while also supporting local providers. For example, the geranium bourbon in the fragrance is sourced from a female-led cooperative in Réunion, and this partnership helps offer a better quality of life for the women who cultivate it .

How did the process of creating “all of me” compare to the process of creating your first fragrance 20 years ago?
Creating for her was a very different experience. At that time, we were a small fragrance company, so the process was very personal and intimate. Today, I am just as closely involved in every detail but the world is very different, so launching a new fragrance is a much more complicated process that takes a lot longer. It involves many different considerations that we just didn’t have to think about 20 years ago.

What was the most challenging aspect in creating “all of me”?
The most challenging aspect was actually communicating the abstract values of all of me visually in the campaign. Ultimately, after a lot of hard work, the new campaign perfectly captures what I wanted to say with this new fragrance, celebrating the many facets of a confident and free-spirited woman.

What aspect of “all of me” are you most proud of?
I am proud of every aspect of the project, but what I’m most proud of is the way that all of the different elements have come together. The fragrance, the bottle, the campaign — they all create a beautiful symphony.

For her completely changed the landscape of modern perfumery and has loyal fans all around the world to this day. What are your hopes for this new chapter?
My hope is that “all of me” is as beloved by women around the world as for her has become.
