When it comes to soulful heartache, there’s not many artists more reliable than KIANA. The Toronto-based singer-songwriter brings a vitality to her emotional resonance that is not so easily acquired, placing her honesty in the epicentre of her writing. With the individualistic Persian and Dutch cultural upbringing, the artist brings a unique energy and perspective to her atmospheric and hazy sound.

Returning with her latest infectious single, “split decisions”, KIANA once again illustrates why she is so hotly tipped in R&B circles. Subtle but seductive, the lyrical approach is personal and open, with the songwriter aware of the feelings that she amasses without taking them too seriously. Atop the creamy, consuming instrumental backdrop, KIANA swoons and sways, plucking from her own heart strings with her diary-like lyricism.

Discussing the track, KIANA says, “The verses are almost like flashbacks that reminisce over memories and who that person was, and is vulnerable in the reality that when you let go of someone – you do continue to think about everything that you had, what could’ve been, and you learn to understand yourself and the other person more when the situation is done with”.

With plenty more new music in the pipeline, we’ll be watching the fruitful progression of the R&B songstress in eager anticipation.
