YELLOW CLAW FT. SHACHI — “HEY SENSEI”

The Dutch electronic-trap duo released a new bilingual single with Japanese rapper Shachi, and they don’t know what all the lyrics mean.

Known for their thumping club records, Dutch electronic/trap duo Yellow Claw has released a collaborative track “Hey Sensei” with Japanese rapper Shachi. As always, they defy the bounds of genres and gain inspiration from a variety of different sounds. In this bilingual single, they take it even further, merging English and Japanese languages, trap and hip-hop sonics, and xylophone notes with steady basslines. Experimental and one-of-a-kind, “Hey Sensei” will get you up on your feet. An instant success, the song follows Yellow Claw’s 2023 studio album, ¥€$, as their alter ego €URO TRA$H.

After hearing the beat for “Hey Sensei”, Shachi added sultry, powerful vocals to create a comprehensive, infectious tune. While Yellow Claw admits they don’t know what all of the lyrics mean, they still feel them to their core: “We met up with Shachi when we did a show in Tokyo. Airdropped her the beat, and she sent us the vocals a couple of days later. All the Japanese lyrics are really like a painting with words to us. We don’t know what they mean, but they sound so good.”

A force in the electronic music scene, Yellow Claw has collaborated with artists such as Steve Aoki, A$AP Ferg, Tinashe, and Juicy J, and continues to outdo themselves with every track. This new collaboration reminds us that the duo will always continue to shake things up, surprise us, and evolve.
