Texas-based artist Dan Lam evokes wonder with her drippy sculptures, and provides her viewers with an avenue to contemplate grand themes and ideas of existence. She explores unconventional materials, organic forms, and bright colours to convey beauty and grotesqueness all at once.
Discussing her work, Dan Lam says: “Bright, bold, otherworldly — my work is the amalgamation of 15 years of working and experimenting with nontraditional materials. I intend to dive deep to develop my voice and communicate my ideas. Conceptually I work with dichotomies such as beauty vs. repulsion, organic forms vs. inorganic materials, etc. The natural world inspires me. I take a lot of cues from nature, such as the shapes of slime molds and fungi, the colorful markings of animals, and the layering and geological process of the earth itself. I want to create work that generates curiosity in others. Something as simple as wondering what a sculpture is made of or how it’s made can lead down a rabbit hole, and you never know where that can take you.”
In addition to exhibiting her work worldwide, Lam has curated a list of celebrity clients and art collectors, from Miley Cyrus to the Tisch family. She’s worked with Facebook, Virgin, art producers Meow Wolf, and has been featured in Architectural Digest and Forbes.
