REYLOVESU AND KILLERS TO LOVERS — “BLACK HOLE SUN”

The Lower East Side singer-songwriter and Brooklyn-based producer teamed up for a cover of Soundgarden’s classic track.

Based out of New York City’s Lower East Side, Reylovesu is a singer-songwriter and producer. Combining musical influences of the Dominican Republic, where his parents are from, with the city sonics he grew up experimenting and playing with, Reylovesu created and mastered an underground R&B sound all his own. After a feature with Juicy J and his own album, Heartbreak Unlimited Vol. 1, the artist is back with new music. This time, it’s with Killers To Lovers. Off of their upcoming collaborative album, Dreamcast, Reylovesu and Brooklyn-based producers Killers To Lovers have released their version of “Black Hole Sun”. The artist-producer combo is also set to collaborate on Reylovesu’s Heartbreak Unlimited Vol. 2, out at the end of the year.

A cover of Soundgarden’s classic song, their take is synth-heavy experimentation. Nearly three decades after the original, Reylovesu and Killers To Lovers bring the track to the modern day — and it feels as relevant as ever. It is a fine line between making a cover your own and changing its origins too much, but this duo makes it seem effortless. Harmonious vocals float over layers of keys and strong production, before getting drowned out by added synths. They fade back in as we continue on a rollercoaster of beats and emotion. If this is any indication of Dreamcast, we can’t wait!
