Pop is as potent as ever, with scores of talented artists vying to break through the congestion of the industry and make an impact on the scene. One artist who is succeeding in doing so is Boston-born, LA-based singer-songwriter Rosie Darling. Her sound is brimming with vitality and ambition, memorable and familiar, relatable but unique. 2021 saw Darling release her debut EP Coping, a sublime collection of tracks that showcased her potential and eye for detail. This was followed by the ’22 sophomore EP, Golden Age, which cemented her acclaim and saw her sharpen her sonic identity.

Darling has now returned with a second single of the year. Following the consuming cut “Lost On You”, we have been blessed with “Nail In The Coffin”, a devastating and divine number that highlights the artistic progression of the artist. Borrowing the powerful but ethereal talent of Swedish alt-pop artist Boy In Space, we are welcomed into a resonant narrative of a break up that lacks closure, as Darling draws us into her heartache and psyche. The colour-laden instrumental provides thee perfect backdrop for both artists to deliver soaring vocal performances, with the ear-worm hook bound to find itself stuck in listeners heads.

Speaking on the release, Darling comments, “I wanted to write a song about a relationship ending on bad terms and needing to walk away from it even when you have unresolved conflict between each other. I think as someone who wants peace and resolution, it’s hard to fully leave something when you don’t feel like they’ve understood you or that you maybe didn’t understand them, and you have to end it in conflict with each other. That’s life sometimes though! We don’t always speak the same languages and sometimes we have to walk away and end things unresolved and that’s painful.”
