Breakout Argentinian rapper Tiago PZK released the deluxe version of his album Portales, and with it, a heartbreaking music video for his new single “Que Se Parezca a Ti”.

Gaining 1.5 billion views on Youtube in just two years, the versatile artist is not slowing down. Just last year, Tiago performed for the first time in Chile and Argentina at Lollapalooza. Since then, he performed on live television at the Latin American Music Awards, won the Best New Artist award at the LOS40 Awards in Spain, performed at the SXSW festival in Texas, played at the opening of the Kings League Grand Finale, and began his Portales tour.

Portales, released in July 2022, debuted at #2 on Spotify’s Global Top Albums. The new deluxe version features five additional tracks, including recent singles “Bemaste” and “Slow”. With the deluxe album, Tiago released the track “Que Se Parezca a Ti” as a single. Its music video feels like a short film, following an elderly couple through hardships of ill health, unconditional love, and ultimately loss. It gives the heartbreaking lyrics a visual dimension — and gives us goosebumps.

We talked to the star about his sound, influences, relationship with Gerrit Jacob, and what the future holds.

And now for the interview…

When did you start writing and creating music?
The first time I ever stepped in a studio I was 14 y/o. Before that I was writing songs but that wasn’t my strongest point.

Your sound is difficult to put into just one genre — how would you characterise it?
If I wanted to do the same type of music I would but I have fun discovering new musical challenges. My music style is characterised by its emotion and attitude.

What was the process of creating Portales? What influenced you, what is your song writing process, and how do you select the track list and order?
It wasn’t a difficult creative process in terms of the conceptualisation of it but at the same time it was a tough musical discovery. It’s not the greatest example of conceptual production, the tracks came from different paths that ended up at the same destination, which was the debut album for a young upcoming artists like me.

What messages do you hope to convey with Portales?
Take a change to do whatever the hell you want without caring what everyone else’s taste says. Be disruptive and whatever you do, do so consciously so you can achieve the best results.

How does the deluxe version differ? Does it bring in new themes or sounds?
Conceptually it’s the same, sentimental songs with different paths. I feel like it’s the end of one stage in my life and I’m happy about it.

Do you have a favourite track on the deluxe album?
My favourite one is “Muy Mal”, it has a really high vibe and talks about getting over someone in a mature but also a cheeky way.

Can you speak about creating the music video?
I’ve always been involved in the ideas around my videos, but this time I got really involved with the concept of “Que Se Parezca A Ti”, something I have been able to do since the release of Portales. I wanted the video to portray the same heartbreak feeling that the track has.

What was it like to go on tour and perform your music for an audience?
It made me grow massively as a human and to get to know myself. To be able to put a face to all those fans who listen to my music in other parts of the world transmitting their energy feeling it in the region.

Talk us through your work with Gerrit Jacob?
Gerrit is sublime. I knew of him through Rosalia. I immediately started following him. My stylist got in touch, and he’s done various pieces for me.

What is it about their work that compels you to collaborate with them?
I love the way their clothes are cut, they have so much attitude and presence. Originality is also key. It’s been really cool to work with their airbrush artist too.

Do you have a career highlight thus far?
I’ll be able to answer this question when I retire, and I have time to look back.

What is next for you?
A really incredible project where everything I wasn’t able to implement into my first album, I will make happen this time, an evolution and refresh on my part for my people, I hope that project is a milestone.
