It’s Henry Moodie’s birthday and he’s given us a present!
The singer-songwriter is back with his third single. Following his debut, titled “you were there for me” and produced by Henry in his bedroom, and subsequent release “drunk text”, “eighteen” establishes the artist as a pop star to watch. Not even in his twenties yet, Henry has already acquired 3.6 million monthly Spotify listeners and 60 million worldwide streams, been named as one of Amazon’s artists to watch, and started opening for Mimi Webb on her European tour. Despite the success, he still feels the complicated pressure of growing up — and releases these feelings to the world in his new single.
A coming of age story, “eighteen” captures feeling stuck between childhood and adulthood. Perhaps it is this universal subject matter that makes Henry so relatable to his fans, or maybe it is the way he puts these complexities into concrete phrases that help others understand what they’re feeling. An infectious pop melody compliments vulnerable, smart songwriting to create a vulnerable anthem bound to get stuck in your head.
“The song is all about the transition of becoming an adult and the complicated emotions that come with it,” he explains. “The responsibility, the pressure to decide what you want to do with your life, it can be a lot. So many go through this and will relate to the feeling. I want people to know they’re not alone.”
In the accompanying music video, Henry lets people into his world even further, showing behind-the-scenes videos from his past few months on the road.
Something tells us Henry’s 19th year is bound to be big.
