Austin Sands is a man of many talents. Raised around the beaches of California, Sands had a promising basketball career until an injury forced a change of passion; becoming encompassed by music and bands like Radiohead and Smashing Pumpkins, Sands took up the guitar and dedicated himself to studying music, playing live shows at the tender age of 11. By 19 he had gained wide exposure across California venues, playing huge shows and collaborating with songwriting legend Diane Warren. Also a successful designer and entrepreneur, Sands has made a splash in the luxury eyewear industry, launching Hoorsenbuhs Eyewear, with his frames worn by the likes of Brad Pitt, David Beckham and Jennifer Anniston.
His new single is his second release of the year, bellowing an early “Acoustic Sessions” of previous singles “Cruise” and “We Need to Talk”. The single is a moody pop ballad with spirited vocals, encapsulating lyricism and vibrant instrumentation. The 80s inspired synths and pacy percussion are the sonic backdrop for Sands romantic tale, delivered with panache and emotion. It’s a sleek electro-pop cut that further showcases his talent as a songwriter and singer.
Speaking on the single, Sands commented: ““So Close to Me” evolved in to a psychological thriller. The writing process taught me a lot about existence – living and non-living. At first listen you may hear only a love song, but listen closely and find yourself on a journey through humanity, technology, AI and of course, love”.
