OSCARS 2023: BEST LOOKS

Rihanna, Hunter Schafer, and Paul Mescal rose to the occasion at last night’s hotly-coveted, ultra-prestigious awards ceremony.

This is the moment we’ve all been waiting for. We’ve covered awards show after awards show, but let’s be real, the Oscars takes the cake. It’s the ultimate prestige, the highest accolade to win an Oscar – and our favourite celebs dressed in compliance of this highest order. From Hunter Schafer’s barely-there bralette, and Paul Mescal looking gorg in Gucci, to Rihanna’s sumptuous outfit switch – we’ve gathered up the best of the best.

Head below to see our picks…

Light as a feather

Starting off strong with la femme de jour, let’s dish the details about Hunter Schafer’s fit. Plucked straight from Ann Demeulemeester’s Autumn/Winter 2023 collection, which was just sent down the runway, we’re simply obsessed. A feather bandeau – made of leather, no less – is offset by a cascading silk skirt. Trailing out in a train, Schafer looks like a vision in white.

Alluring in Alaia

Up next is Rihanna, whose return to the spotlight has been nothing short of groundbreaking. The starlet announced her second pregnancy at her hotly-anticipated Super Bowl performance, and Rhi upped the ante at the Oscars. In custom Alaia, mesh and leather come together to reveal and conceal – in an almost harness-like fashion. Showing off her bump to boot, we can’t get enough of this look.

Glorious in Gucci

@gucci

@gucci

The internet’s boyfriend, Paul Mescal, was his old adorable self on last night’s Oscars red carpet. Turning out a chic black and white look in Gucci – colour us impressed. An eye-catching bowtie sets the tone for the fit, wherein a long suit jacket with the pointiest lapels is giving us life. Wide-legged trousers complete the look, falling just above some smart patent shoes. Love!

Phresh out the runway

@versace

We previously chatted about Queen Rhi, but for Lady Gaga’s look we need to bring her back – because this look is the definition of “phresh out the runway.” Cherry picked right off of Gigi Hadid from the latest Versace show – which happened a mere day before the Oscars – Gaga got this dress while it’s hot. Mesh, with visible boning, and a silk skirt that juts out ever so slightly – Gaga looks gorgeous.

Draped in Demeulemeester

@manurios

There’s no doubt about it, Ann Demeulemeester had an extremely strong showing last night. Spanish heartthrob Manu Rios turned it out in the Belgian designer’s threads — offering up a subversive, draped vibe. Deconstructing the very notion of a suit, the open shirt billows to the side, while tight latex trousers are tucked into riding boots. We see you, Manu!

Seeing red

@yarashahidi

Last, but certainly not least, is actress Yara Shahidi who showed up and showed OUT. Donning a full Bottega Venetta ensemble, Shahidi looks striking. Over a strapless shift dress goes red leather, adorned with a bajillion floral appliques. We adore this mixing of textures, and the colour certainly makes an impact. Keeping her glam and hair simple to let the outfit do the talking, we’re left speechless.
