FERRARI: AUTUMN/WINTER 2023-24 COLLECTION

The Italian house questions the very notion of beauty with its Autumn/Winter 2023-24 collection.

One brand that has risen through the ranks during Milan Fashion Week is the one and only Ferrari. Revered for its stellar evolution from luxury cars into luxury wear — Ferrari has upped the ante yet again with its latest collection.

What does it mean to be beautiful? How is this perceived in the eyes of Ferrari? For Creative Director Rocco Iannone, the jumping off point came from unravelling these questions. Iannone reflects, “Beauty is the pleasure that derives from speed, captured in its initial burst, in its full symbolic and design potential. It is the movement that stems from an idea, the aesthetic that captures the uniqueness of the transient, the sign of what is about to take place”.

This idea of beauty in action translates to the wealth of utility details seen in the collection. Denim canvas evokes workwear, while front-facing pockets also carry the thread of motion. When it comes to silhouettes, Ferrari goes big. Evolving the inflated shapes we’ve seen a lot of during fashion month, this collection’s theme of momentary impact is symbolised by the slouchy, quilted, and puffed-up construction.

Where colours are concerned, an eye-catching array of vibrant pinks, blues, and greens form the foundation of many of the garments. Not to mention — Red — Ferrari’s instantly recognisable shade, which brims with vitality. That said, the desire to dazzle hasn’t overthrown the desire to be sustainable. The bomber jackets, coats and suits are crafted from recycled and certified satin. The latter of which repurposes waste tyres by turning them into pyrolysis oil, which is derivative of the fact that it can act as a substitute for fossil fuels — also helping to reduce CO2 emissions.

Ferrari’s Autumn/Winter 2023-24 collection is not just sustainable, conceptual and enticing — its setting also holds meaning. The Plazzo Citterio is a symbol of 18th-century Italian art, encased within modern, industrial architecture. Ferrari’s Autumn/Winter 2023-24 collection is steeped in the meeting of old and new, as well as emotion and aesthetics; we’re definitely coming along for the ride.
