“I try to find characters that I can relate to in some sense. For Aisha, it’s about a woman migrating from one country to the next. I look for characters that not only feel relatable but can also teach you something, but also for characters to be a vessel for me to learn something. Take Shuri for instance in Black Panther, she taught me to be brave and have courage; learn to appreciate people in front of me before it’s too late. She’s helped me grow into a woman.”
