PREMIERE: COUVO – “PURGATORY”

The emerging artist unveils new music video following the release of album ‘The Drinks Are Always Free In Purgatory.’

Couvo’s new track is an ode to our hopes and dreams. A lot of the time we find ourselves putting in the graft, in the hopes that one day it’ll pay off. Especially when embarking on a creative career, what many don’t mention is the feeling of limbo – that liminal space between having a dream, and actually living it. “Purgatory” is an exploration of this dizzying feeling; the artist reflects, “For most of us, we’re still waiting for that tomorrow. And that sounds a lot like purgatory.”

Couvo was dubbed “The Punk Springsteen” by an audience member of his latest show (an attempt to ‘gas him up,’ the artist humorously recalls in his insta bio – check it out here), and he no doubt brings that same forceful energy to his music. The track starts off with fluttering guitars that gradually build into a powerful ballad – and the accompanying music video draws out its dreamlike essence. Directed by Zach Cooper, Couvo finds himself working a dead-end job at a nursery, dreaming up a bigger life for himself amongst the flowers. We can see the frustration build on his face, and the video culminates in him ditching his gloves – and assumedly, picking up his guitar on the journey to follow his aspirations through.

Couvo channels this universal desire to make something of yourself, and it’s clear that his message resonates with many – as his hotly anticipated release show is taking place in New York on the 10th of November. We were blown away by the track’s energy, and we’re sure you will be too.
