“Every breath, a breakthrough,” Selena Gomez’ Instagram caption read as she shared the full-length trailer for her highly-anticipated project, My Mind & Me trailer. The documentary follows Gomez’s experience with mental health after years spent at the heart of celebrity culture, with 210+ million single sales to her name and starring roles in many a juggernaut TV series, including most recently, Only Murders in the Building. Unravelling over a six-year period, the film, directed by Alek Keshishian, the man behind the mammoth 1991 documentary, Madonna: Truth or Dare, finds Gomez initially at a new apex in her career. However, when an unexpected event occurs, the singer and actor’s mental health declines. What follows is a journey, until the current period in her life, with her mind at its core.
Gomez shared the new trailer in honour of World Mental Health Day, and in it, we see more detailed looks at the journey she embarked on when making the film. “How do I learn to breathe my own breath again?” she asks. We also hear raw insights from her loved ones on Gomez’s experiences, which include receiving a bipolar disorder diagnosis, suffering from lupus, and of course, interacting with dizzying levels of fame since her youth. The trailer also gives us a taste of the gorgeous accompanying track, also named “My Mind & Me”, which Gomez revealed recently would be dropping alongside the film.
Marking the second collaboration between Apple TV+ and producers, Lighthouse Management Media and Interscope films, My Mind & Me comes after Billie Eilish: The World’s A Little Blurry, the Emmy-nominated, similarly candid look at reality for another of today’s most recognisable faces.
My Mind & Me is due for release on November 4th. Head below to watch the trailer for yourself, right now…
