On “Boys Will Be Boys”, LA singer-songwriter Maryon King is clapping back at womanising men. “It’s about the fickle nature of modern relationships – or ‘situationships,’” she explains. “Where the person you thought cared about you only wants you for your body.” Told purely with her unfaltering vocal prowess in the brand new live version of the usually playful pop track, King, backed merely by a piano, performs alone, from a mountainous landscape, befitting of an arrangement of such grand stature.
It’s a captivating reimagination of the track which has already found its way into the lives of hoards of online fans, garnering over one million views on the platform since release. The success is the culmination of a hard-fought trajectory for Moldovan-born King, whose parents weren’t sold on music as a career path. However, upon moving to London to study languages at university, she secretly switched to a music degree, throwing herself into the capital’s rich music scene in the process. The rest is history, however, Maryon’s career looks set to extend far into the future.
