PREMIERE: TALIA GODDESS – “RAGGA”

The 20-year-old New Yorker puts her visionary foot forward once again in strong contender for coolest music video of the year.

The opening scene of “RAGGA” sees Talia Goddess show up at an underground party, met by one fellow guest with side eye and shade in abundance. “You look, um, very interesting tonight,” the attendee, arms-folded, standing before her utters. “So do you, yeah I could say the same about you” Goddess rejoinders with ease.

“I am number one and I don’t even need a medal,” she continues in the track’s verse. Such statements might seem like arrogance but they’re instantly justified by dancehall fusion track “RAGGA”, and its adroitly crafted video, co-directed by Goddess herself. The ode to the youth scene in NYC from which she ascended through, this follow-up to 2021 debut EP “Poster Girl” sees Goddess exude the cool-girl flair the maestro in the making suffuses into her neo-soul, R&B, and electronica encompassing music. A vivid chronicle of youth from where she’s from, the “RAGGA” music video brims with the very young people who inhabit that real-life world and makes you want to join them for a night, if only we could ever be that cool.

However, it’s safe to say that Goddess’ music is headed for international destinations, beyond her local area, as more and more become hooked on the forward-thinking polymath’s charm. Proven by gig bookings both in the UK and across the pond, she touched down at London’s All Points East this weekend and will return to London on October 4th for Vice’s Rising Festival, not forgetting a turn at Afropunk in NYC in between.

If we could, we would be in a crowd watching Goddess right now, but sadly it’s Tuesday. In the meantime, however, you can get your fill of Goddess by watching the “RAGGA” video right now, below…
