We may not like it, but summer at some point in the near-ish future is set to pack up its things and be on its merry way once more. You might be already mourning beach days and warm sunsets or suitably aroused by the prospects of autumn’s gloomy skies and falling leaves. However, with the trailer for Netflix’s new series Wednesday released today, there’s only one thing apparent to us – it’s almost spooky SZN, witches!
And, luckily one of the most grisly stories in the canon of spooky tales, The Addams Family, is making a comeback, this time told through weird horror and fantasy movie maestro Tim Burton’s (Edward Scissorhands, Charlie and The Chocolate Factory and Alice and Wonderland) incomparable lens.
Compared with previous incarnations – the 1960s TV series, momentous ‘90s movies, or more recent Broadway musical – Netflix series Wednesday, you guessed it, centres on the family’s only daughter. Our favourite death-obsessed gal is this time slightly older, now with a patchy record at high schools – “You’ve certainly had a very interesting educational journey’, we hear one of her teachers say in the newly released trailer, which dropped on Netflix earlier in the week.
Giving us a preview into the show’s twisted plot, the new clip teaches us that Wednesday ends up at Nevermore Academy after her turbulent educational joruney, the boarding school for outcasts where her mum Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones) and dad Gomez (Luis Guzmán) apparently met. Whilst challenging years for any teenager, Wednesday’s got a lot to, let’s say, work through, “I like stabbing people” she proclaims.
School just got sinister and we can’t wait to watch this macabre girl navigate her teenage years. Head below for a peek at what to expect from the new series in the newly released trailer…
