If you were looking for any excuse to delve back into the synth-soaked 80s following an exhausting Stranger Things binge, fear not, as Paper Foxes are here with the ultimate justification: their new track, “Heartstrings”. Their new track incorporates a throbbing baseline with a crafty blend of indie, disco and electronic sensibilities to create a sense of nostalgia, culminating in a shining example of what can best be described as ’nouveau-retro’.

Putting a fresh face to the Blade Runner beats dreamed up by the likes of M83 and MGMT, the Phoenix-based five-piece saturates this track with their vibrant analogue synths and an intensely fluorescent electronic soundscape. With a vibe fit to colour a utopian sci-fi skyline, Paper Foxes maintain the track’s edge with a chilled delivery of an infectiously catchy lead vocal.

Having earned the title on ones-to-watch thanks to their rapidly expanding listens and recognition from the likes of Netflix and MTV in the form of sync deals, Paper Foxes are just beginning their rise to notability. So, keep your eye’s peeled and your “Heartstrings” pliable, because we can expect big things from the collective very soon – best proved by the promise of more material from their upcoming album coming in 2023.
