There is nothing we love more than the boundaries of art being pushed to their very limits, and setting our desire for the different ablaze, LA-based MTRSS achieves all of this and more with their two-part project, Suite for Antarctica Oceans. To create harmony in modern music and art, the environmentally friendly fuelled creatives are releasing Suite for Antarctica Oceans Part 1 and 2 to raise awareness for the vital Antarctic ecosystems — with some soul-soaked melodies and chilling production for good measure.
Speaking on what fuelled his inspiration, Mumiy Troll frontman Ilya Lagutenko says “I have admired books about ocean explorers since I was a kid. At this point, I spent quite some time sailing seas myself. Even though music is my main career, I’ve been actively supporting numerous ecological initiatives for many years. A couple of years ago I found out about Only.One. Around the same time, my friends who were lucky enough to sail around the coast of Antarctica told me their stories of how they witnessed black granite rocks appearing from underneath the ice, which 10 years ago were not visible. I’ve never been to Antarctica, but I have mixed feelings that include the spirit of adventure, ecological warnings, and my imagination of what Antarctica must be like, which inspired me to create this piece of music.”
A supportive act with the purest of intentions, the two instrumental singles highlight the problem of designating Marine Protected Areas around Antarctica — emphasised through the two tracks calming rhythm and hypnotising soundscapes. Releasing just in time for the weekend, this one is sure to send you into a state of tranquil bliss — leaving a more socially conscious world in its wake.
