Inserting herself into a unique fusion of genres, singer-songwriter Sophie Auster opens up about female friendship, loss and love in her new single “Hey, Girlfriend”. The bluesy folk-pop singer doesn’t hesitate to delve into the intricacies of romantic friendships in the nostalgic track, drawing our attention to the sense of longing tied to feelings of jealousy, attraction and love, heightened by Sophie’s sultry cabaret-infused vocals complimented by heavy strums and rhythmic percussion. After discovering “There is no word in English for a passionate non-sexual friendship between women,” the singer reveals, “I wanted to write this song about the feeling of loss after I drifted apart from my best friend growing up. I think it is a story almost every woman in the world can relate to, but to my knowledge, there aren’t many songs written about it.”

Having set the tone with two singles this year already, Sophie’s long-awaited EP “Dancing With Strangers” couldn’t come sooner, and is due to be released May 6th. Her distinctive sound, and thought-provoking lyrics have been likened to icons such as Nina Simone and Fiona Apple, and we can’t wait to see the realms she dares to explore next.
