Propelling us straight into our feels, Vance Joy releases “Don’t Fade” a sugar-sweet indie track which is both painfully evocative yet comforting. Showcasing a fresh and elating soundscape, “Don’t Fade” is the perfect first sip of his forthcoming third studio album. On the single itself, Vance explains, “I wrote ‘Don’t Fade’ with my friend and frequent songwriting partner Dave Bassett toward the end of 2019. It came as a surprise and felt like a special discovery. I like writing about that feeling of timelessness you get when you’re with someone you love. When we came to produce the song, I had the great fortune to work with Take a Daytrip, Edwin White and David Longstreth (of Dirty Projectors). Writing this song was the starting point for my new album. I knew I was on a path somewhere once this song came along.”

Feeling more inspired than ever by the thought-provoking lyrics of his latest work, Vance has immersed himself into the melancholic melodies of his influences — giving his fans a warm hug in the form of a playlist. From the soul-baring vocals of Oliver Tree to the haunting soundscapes of Lorde and Tame Impala, the playlist is exactly what we needed to nudge us through the mid-week blues.

Oliver Tree – “Cowboy’s Don’t Cry”

Just a couple of days ago I heard this song. It feels old and new at the same time. Love the line ‘catch my drift’. But there are so many great lines in this song (not to mention all the other beautiful elements).

Len – “Steal My Sunshine”

My friend said the Oliver tree song reminds him of this classic. How good does it feel!

Filter – “Take A Picture”

I feel like this song lives in a similar world to the Len song – at least it does for me. The guitars are so alive and crunchy and then the drums and bongos. Powerful!

Alt J – “U&ME”

Just heard this song. I love the guitar riff. Beautiful lyrics.

Madonna – “Don’t tell me”

This guitar picking with the electronic beats is so good. I love the line “take the black of the crow”. So rad.

Lorde – Mood Ring

This song is so clever and fun and funny lyrically. I love the melodies and the retro feel. Guitar picking is beaut! So awesome.

Dandy Warhols – “Sleep”

This feels like it can live happily alongside all these tunes. I love the chord profession – peaceful and gentle. Trancelike.

Eddie Vedder – “Invincible”

I watched an interview with Eddie Vedder and Brice Springsteen. The Boss likes the line – “invincible, when we love”. Perfect. Such a big and inspiring start to a song.

Nilufer Yanya – “Midnight Sun”

The lyrics in this song are great. “You’re my best machine, you’re my midnight sun.” Love the guitars. Feels old and brand new at the same time.

Tame impala – “The Boat I Row”

I just heard this song and I love the bass line. I love the cover artwork for these b-sides of “Slow Rush” too. The room filling with sand looks a little weathered this time round.
