PREMIERE: LUKA JAMES – “MIST”

The Brooklyn-based artist reflects on the struggles of modern society, and sings a song of letting go.

With the long month of January finally over, it could be said we are all in dire need for some cathartic release. For this, Luka James releases “Mist”, an almost meditative track which lulls its listeners into a calming retreat, allowing any troubles to dissipate into a warming melody. The single comes equipped with a gentle electric guitar and ear-worming piano riffs, which excite the senses but keep the need to focus at bay. Through his music, the Brooklyn-based singer and songwriter takes his fans on a journey to a state of elation. Luckily enough for us, the track drops alongside a hypnotic visual, which carries the sentiments of the lyrics into a whole new dimension.

Starting with bright white lights and chirping birds, a mass expanse of freedom is contrasted with short clips of the singer in a confined space of darkness. As the video continues, the songs pace begins to lift, while the singer begins to find himself in different elements of nature. Seeing his hair in the grass, his lips in the leaves, Luka depicts a merging of humans and nature — a realisation that ultimately sets him free into scenic waterfalls and expansive greenery.

Directed by Anastasia Antonova, the video is a cinematic reflection of Luka’s personal intentions: to own his own truth. Recognising that we are all creatures of nature, no matter where we come from or what we do, Luka finally lets the “Mist” clear, and no longer looks for validation from others.
