Retracing the classic-modern archetype of fashion today, Fendi’s Men’s Fall/Winter 22-23 collection redresses the avant-garde nature of menswear from the roaring 20’s. Designed by Silvia Venturini Fendi, the collection is both a doting tribute and radicalisation of the timeless sophistication of tailored formal wear, blended with contemporary finishes that lend themselves to more casual clothing. Cascading the runway of Milan, Fendi thrusts old world elegance into the world of reinvention and freedom, with not a pearl, diamond print or floral brooch a step out of bounds.

Most prominent amongst the collection is the deconstruction of regimented blazer cuts. Featuring cropped boxy double-breasted jackets, cinched tailcoats and below the knee houndstooth-hemmed shirt dresses, the collection reflects Fendi’s Roman-esque elegance whilst treading the lines of masculinity that no other designer has touched. In-keeping with this trope, the collection also sees the incorporation of casual garments, including clavicle-exposing key-hole knits, half-skirts interspersed with leather trimming and high-waisted trousers — worn over brand new Fendi sneakers adorned with a dynamic stretched FF motif. Staying true to the Gatsby-native palette, an understated scheme of taupes and creams as well as rich burgundy’s and raspberry tones exude luxury within the collection.

Resurrecting symbols of bygone male sophistication, Silvia employs an unprecedented presence of accessories such as pearl O’Lock chokers, crystal FF pendants and miniature bags. In doing so, Fendi not only challenges modern convention, but creates a unique perennial wardrobe all of its own. A personal favourite, however, would have to go to the shearling long coat and duffle bag, styled with the timeless O’Lock print and cream pleated trousers which dance on the boundaries of work and play.
