Even though winter has us tightly in its grip, rising Nigerian pop star Nissi is bringing the heat with her new single “Hold”. Propelling into her own personal version of paradise, the artist introduces to an intricately crafted soundscape filled with afrobeat and pop sensibilities. Giving the same effervescent energy in the video, the artist brings the song to life and takes us a one-shot dance fiesta.
“From the moment I started to make this song, I could visualise this choreographed movement of being in a maze with someone pulling at you while you try to find your way through all the obstacles,” the artist said when describing the video. “ Kinda like an escape room and after walking through a few treatments with directors, I was in love with the simplistic yet so beautiful and apt. portrayal that the video direction gave in the almost broadway-esque setting of a musical dance performance delivered in one take to capture all the feels and emotions.”
Following on from her addictive collaboration with London-hailed rapper BackRoad Gee, the artist has come at us full force this year – from her ear-worming debut EP “Ignite” to her undeniable stage presence. With African Giant Burna Boy as her older brother and afrobeat legend Fela Kuti her grandfather, it goes without saying music is in her genes and she’s got a huge career ahead of her.
