When an artist makes their comeback, it always promises to bring with it anticipation for their crazed fans and plenty of bangers, many of which have been years in the making. And, this is exactly what we are getting today as 90s dream-pop collective, Sugarplum Fairies drop their album, Altar Songs 1998-2021.

Having dropped their last project in 2009, the band have looked to make a triumphant return this year as they welcome us into their dreamland once more. Comprised of 15 tracks, the album is tinged with nostalgia as we are offered up moody vocals and beautiful acoustic instrumentation that wraps itself around listeners in an all-consuming manner. Infectiously melancholy and soothing to the ear, the album is perfect for those winter nights spent cosied up at home.

With track “Tears”, which is described by the band as, “kind of a crooner-style ballad that disintegrates towards the end,” and its accompanying music video standing as a hazy ode to the band’s irresistible aesthetic and tone while also embodying the album perfectly, it confirms itself to be the ultimate comeback project.
