While many albums have been anticipated this year, none have had music fans swooning quite like An Evening With Silk Sonic. A bold tribute to the sounds of the soul and R&B scene of the 70s, best embodied by artists such as Bootsy Collins who actually features on the new project, Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak came together to offer us the ultimate collaboration, one that is smooth sounding and undeniably sexy. Featuring already famed cuts such as “Leave The Door Open” as well as previously unheard tracks “777” and “Blast Off”, it is fair to say that this is the only album we will be listening to this weekend.
Wonderland.
WONDERLIST
From Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak transporting us into the golden era of soul to new projects from LADIPOE and WSTRN, here is this week’s music round-up.
Silk Sonic – An Evening With Silk Sonic
Abby Sage – “Fears of Yours & Mine”
Newcomer Abby Sage has been making waves in the music scenes as of late thanks to her enchanting take on bedroom pop sound. And now, as she unleashes the tsunami that is her debut EP “Fears of Yours & Mine”, it becomes clear that industry domination is a certainty for the Canadian talent on the rise. Featuring the ethereal-toned lead track “Fever Dream”, alongside other stellar offerings “Smoke Break” and “Space For Me”, the project looks to showcase Abby’s vulnerable pen and angelic vocal ability, the qualities to which she can attribute her rapidly growing fanbase and success.
BXKS – “321” ft. Oscar #Worldpeace
BXKS’ latest mixtape, Hack The Planet, has just landed. And, while all of the tracks are worthy of a mention, none have caught our ear quite like “321”. While soft in tone, the rising hip hop artist ensures that her grime and club music influences marry together in perfect harmony as genre-boundaries are boldly disregarded and a truly unique sound prevails. And, to make things all the more exciting, industry newcomer Oscar #Worldpeace also features, proving that the future of British music is filled with promise and unparalleled potential.
LADIPOE – “Providence”
When it comes to new rap projects, while the bars and experimental production that features is of the utmost importance, nothing sets a new EP apart from others of its kind quite like a roaster of fellow industry mavericks lending their musical abilities to the cut. And, this is exactly what LADIPOE’s “Providence” provides. With industry front runners such as Rema, Fireboy DML and Amaarae taking the time to hop into the studio with the Nigerian rapper to dream up introspective songs of award-winning status, it becomes clear that the EP is one of the best to drop this week.
FAANGS – “Don’t Blame Me”
Next up is the nonchalant star FAANGS with her newest release, “Don’t Blame Me”. Brimming with attitude, the new trap-pop-rap fusion cut falls straight from the artist’s 13-track-long project, Teeth Out, ensuring that this is the first of many captivating drops that we can expect from the talent. With an infectious pop bass clashing with the artist’s commanding lyrical flow and her dark-tinged punk aesthetics, which can be best enjoyed in the track’s official music video, it becomes clear that the LA-based songstress is one to watch over the coming months.
WSTRN & Fireboy DML – “Be My Guest”
While Wonderlist is a round-up that often features the best in emerging talent, that is not to say that we cannot take some time to enjoy cuts from some of the industry’s most seasoned professionals. With WSTRN and Fireboy DML coming together for the sensual sounding “Be My Guest” this week, it becomes clear that the talents are planning on staying firmly planted at the top of their game. With a music video in which the artists serenade an array of beautiful women, perfectly capturing the essence of the new lust-fuelled cut, it instantly becomes one for the clubs this weekend.
Betta Lemme – “Ready For The Weekend”
Much like us, the electro-pop force Betta Lemme is “Ready For The Weekend”, and her newest EP is here to prove it. Featuring other-worldly vocals laying over synth-laden production and consuming beat drops, the Canadian artist’s party-ready project will have you wanting to head straight to the club and dance away the sorrows of the past week.
Jim Legxacy – “Andromeda”
Drawing inspiration from his own journey through life as well as the wonders of outer space, artist Jim Legxacy drops “Andromeda”. Making it clear that spitting bars is a talent he has an affinity for, fans of the rapper on the rise are subjected to a thought-provoking commentary on the systematic racism that prevails in this country, something that he explores using space-bound metaphors. Also using the track to introduce the world to the sounds of his new project CITADEL ahead of its December release, the song becomes all the more impressive.
Maluma – “Mama Tetema” ft. Rayvanny
Last up is the award-winning and globally renowned Latin sensation Maluma with his newest cut, “Mama Tetema”. Hoping to transport listeners into the heart of the island party scene with rhythmic sensibilities and neon-infused visuals, filled with feel-good hedonism, Maluma, along with artist Rayvanny, looks to ensure that his fans are in the mood to celebrate and let their hair down all weekend long. Thanks for the vibes, Maluma
