Genre-less and innovative, “Gullah Punk: mod 1” marks the first musical release for what will become one of the most unique projects of any artist yet. Based in Brooklyn, Hippie Tribe, a two-piece made up of dp.thuH and blond.bomber, are pushing the boundaries of their sound and putting a tantalizing experience in its place.

The first glance at “Gullah Punk: mod 1” are punk-rap Afro-Cubano anthems “Billie Dream” and “S A N T A N A” released via their own label, OTOLO Records, giving a taste of what’s to come from the audiovisual album smashing the norms of what music can do and merging the industry with art and championing important history in its own right.

Upcoming visuals will see a series of film shorts highlighting the 70’s afro-kung fu film craze that took Black America by storm and depicting micro and macro-aggressions still affecting the Black community. Speaking of the inspiration, dp.thuH reflects that “as an American Black man and descendant of the Gullah Geechee people, I know all too well the longing for a history that’s nearly erased, all while hoping my present dystopian-like experience will somehow evolve into a prominent future. Well, we got really tired of hoping so we decided to make our own future, today.”
