The Belgian designer abandons the WFH wardrobe and embraces the wonders of oversized workwear for its gender-blurring SS22 collection.
Let’s be real, that pending return to office life has us all slightly on edge. But, fear not, as Raf Simons is here with its SS22 collection to ensure that, despite any impending doom, your new office wardrobe will be brimming with statement pieces hacked straight from its Paris-bound runway.
Ensuring that his collection situated itself in the now, Raf looked to create a post-pandemic collection, standing as an ode to the city-bound working person. In an against-the-fashion-month-grain move, silhouette enhancing tailoring was swapped out for the boxy and exaggerated, giving the formalwear, consisting of below-the-knee hems and high necked collars, an effortlessly cool edge. And, what better way to ensure that a collection is seamlessly cohesive than by introducing subtle dimension-enhancing layering?
While the corporate cuts are enough to deem Raf’s display one of the finest to be born out of Paris Fashion Week, that is not where the subtle yet necessary references ended. Turning to our current craving for androgynous design, Raf’s latest men’s and women’s display is wholly gender-blurring as female models, adorned in dramatically oversized stipped shirts situated themselves next to men draped in gowns. With the collection coming accompanied by the statement of “THE WISDOM OF YOUTH, WISE BEYOND THEIR YEARS, PLAYING BY THE RULES, RULES ARE MADE TO BE BROKEN,” it becomes clear that the celebrated designer is planning to march to the beat of his own drum when it comes to imagining up a new collection.
Thanks, Raf, for confirming that we really are living in the age of genderless looks.
