Doja Cat practically broke the internet with the space-bound party visuals for Planet Her‘s “Need To Know“. And, while the cameos from Grimes and Ryan Destiny obviously played a part in this, so did Doja’s alien aesthetics. And, now it is time to meet the other-worldly brand behind the star’s infamous “Need To Know” platform boots: Windowsen.

Founded in 2019 by visionary Sensen Lii, the label was formed in the hopes of bridging a gap between reality and the unknowns of other universes. And, during its small history, Windowsen has been spotlighted by publications and star’s alike for this exact reason, allowing its Couture collections, which are brimming with extravagant extraterrestrial bodysuits and frothy tulle gowns, to rapidly expand. And, as its journey towards fashion domination continues, the label has most recently looked towards its signature blend of Couture and sporty sensibilities as it unveiled its first Ready-to-Wear collection this year.

When speaking on the ethos behind the brand, designer Sensen Lii claimed, “I always appreciate people who are true to themselves, and proud to be the way they are. With the brand Windowsen I hope to create another dimension, in this world or not, an inclusive wonderland where there are no minorities or majorities, where no boundaries are set up to limit the possibilities in us. Each being is respected.”

Now, following on from the brand’s recent exposure courtesy of Doja’s music video, Sensen Lii sat down with Wonderland to discuss the brand’s intergalactic aesthetics and what we can expect next from Windowsen. Head below to read the full interview…

Hi Sensen Lii, how have you been?
Hi! I’m doing good! It’s been really hectic during these times. We are also getting ready for the launch of our next collection in October.

Let’s start at the beginning! When did you first fall in love with fashion and designing?
When I was a little kid. The teacher in our primary school once played us a video of the Korean pop star Lee Jung Hyun’s stage from 2000. Her performance and styling were just so good and impressive. It opened up my world to performing and fashion, and that still excites me!

How did your label Windowsen come about?
I always appreciate people who are true to themselves, and proud to be the way they are. With the brand Windowsen I hope to create another dimension, in this world or not, an inclusive wonderland where there are no minorities or majorities, where no boundaries are set up to limit the possibilities in us. Each being is respected.

Can you talk us through your design process? What type of work goes into one of your collections?
Before I start a new collection, I always try to immerse myself in sci-fi movies, music videos and discovery YouTube channels. I then create a folder that collects all of my inspo. When an idea comes I can sometimes draw out the whole collection overnight, even if I have seemingly ‘wasted’ a whole month doing nothing. I then keep adding on details when making it.

Who would you say is your biggest style inspiration?
Leigh Bowery.

Your designs have intergalactic inspirations! What is it about aliens and outer space that draws you to them?
I’m not really the kind who often looks to the back, and I am a bit detached from reality! But I feel excited to explore the future and the unknowns. It is where your imagination can go, and possibilities can happen. I guess that’s why I’m drawn by aliens and outer space?

You recently dressed Doja Cat for her “Need To Know” music video! What was it like seeing your designs on her?
I love her! I was so happy when the video came out and seeing our Athletic Platform Boots on her. They fit perfectly with the theme of “Need To Know”.

What is next for you and Windowsen? Are you currently working on any exciting projects that you can tell us about?
I hope I can explore more fields and develop my own game, for example. And, I am planning on keeping both my Ready-to-Wear and Couture lines running, exactly the way I want them to be.

Currently, I have my full attention on the next collection. Stay tuned!
