A triumphant cut that is set alight by the shimmer of cymbals and the ring of classic instrumentation, the song’s sound is undeniably uplifting. And, in a bid to ensure that her empowering lyrics resonate with listeners, Alicia lends her commanding, soul-infused vocals to the project, giving it a wildly unique tone.

When discussing the new track, the artist explained, “In the opening verse of ‘Standing at Your Doorstep’, I belt a timeless lover’s repent: ‘I’m so-o-o-rry!’ I’m returning to the one I love, having realised the error of my straying, and ‘this time I’m here to stay!’ In this case, though, I’m actually singing to myself! I’m seeing that somewhere along the way, I’ve lost myself, and I’ve been living counter to who I really am. Now I’m standing at my own doorstep, recommitting to my true self and pledging to stick around.”

And, while the track’s lyrics hope to ignite an empowering elation within listeners, that is not where its infectiously positive energy stops. Featuring the scenes of Alicia serenading her watchers whilst set against a vibrant urban setting and accompanied by energetic backing dancers, the song’s Lisa Schatz-directed and editied music video is a joy to witness. And, with the artist looking towards the release of her debut album, I Am Alicia, in September, expect more glimmering soul-infused cuts from the artist very soon.
