While award season is usually associated with the primary months of the year, MTV is ensuring that the whole of 2021 is a celebratory affair as it unveils the nominations for this year’s VMA awards.

In a bid to celebrate some of the most masterful music videos to grace our screens over the last year, MTV have looked to the biggest names in music and offered them the coveted titles of 2021 VMA award nominees. Coming out on top this year are Justin Bieber and Megan Thee Stallion, both of whom have been blessed with a staggering 6 nods. Close behind them, however, are the likes of Olivia Rodrigo, Doja Cat and Lil Nas X, whose hell-bound lap dancing displays and Petra Collins-directed videos have seen them all gain 5 nominations. And, in the name of female empowerment and history making, a special shout out is in order for Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s “WAP” and Doja Cat and SZA’s “Kiss Me More”, which have both found their way onto the coveted Video of the Year nominees list – meaning that 2021 will be the first time in history that two all-female collaborations have graced the list at the same time.

With the awards show set to commence on the 12th of September, expect to see all of your celebs winning big and being praised for their unparalleled creativity very soon.
