The success, determination and pure talent of Serena and Venus Williams never ceases to amaze. Having gained the coveted title of sporting legends, their backstory is one filled with wonder. And, in a bid to shed light on the sisters’ unique story of a rise through the sporting ranks, director Reinaldo Marcus Green and Warner Bros have called upon Will Smith to step into the shoes of the stars’ father and coach, Richard Williams, in the deeply emotional trailer for biopic, King Richard.

Packed full of drama and motivation-inducing scenes, the trailer for the upcoming drama sets an anticipatory tone as watchers are transported to the streets of Compton, where the Williams sisters – who are set to be played by Saniyya Sidney and Demi Singleton – grew up. And, as countless trips to the tennis court and a plethora of profound motivational speeches from Will Smith ensue, it becomes clear why the sporting stars attribute much of their success to their regimented yet loving father. But, as with any tale of sporting success, hardship always plays a factor. With a constant battle with prejudice at the helm of the trailer, as well as an ominous scene involving the police, the sister’s rise to stardom becomes all the more admirable and inspiring.

With the release date for King Richard set for November 19th, it is fair to say that we are all going to end 2021 feeling thoroughly inspired and motivated thanks to this biopic.
