West Side Story star Rachel Zegler has been picked by Disney to take the leading role in the live-action remake.

It is fair to say that Disney fans have been kept well and truly fed over the last few years with a barrage of their favourite animations come to life with live-action remakes of titles such as Aladdin and The Lion King. And, with upcoming projects seeing the likes of Halle Bailey set to embody Princess Ariel, the prospect of the rising names in Hollywood stepping into the shoes of princesses and villains alike has become almost as exciting as the movies themselves. Continuing on with its stellar casting displays, Disney has unveiled that actress Rachel Zegler will take the lead in their adaption of the fairytale classic Snow White.

The West Side Story actress is set to lend her unmatched vocals and raw talent to a film filled with enchanted apples, heroic dwarfs and evil queens galoreas as she gears up to transform into the iconic nature-loving princess. And, with La La Land‘s Benj Pasek and Justin Paul tapped to pen brand new songs for the movie, it is set to be a feast for the ears as fans can expect modern theatrical musical numbers meeting classics such as “Whistle While You Work” and ” Heigh-Ho”.

Having debuted in 1983, the original Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is firmly planted at the top of the list of beloved Disney classics, meaning that it was about time that the cartoon underwent the glitzy Hollywood makeover that so many other titles have. And, with Rachel standing as the first big casting for the film and 2022 set as its year of release, the exciting names, images and plot hints are set to trickle through the movie news cycle over the months to come. So, brace yourself for an agonising wait for what is sure to be one of Disney’s most anticipated remakes to date.
