As with most social events, the award seasons of the last year were plagued by unexpected restrictions at the hands of Covid, meaning that the glitz and glamour associated with all things awards were put on hold. But, after a year of adaptation and reimagination, some of our beloved TV and music institutions have begun to take steps in order to return to celebrating the best projects born out of the creative industry. And, no one is doing it quite like the 2021 Virgin Media BAFTAs.

Set to be a truly joyous affair, this year’s events promise to fuse celebration with safety as the awards hope to spotlight the best in British and international television. With holograms beaming in stars to the fan-first red carpet in a bid to allow the festivities to commence safely, the 2021 Virgin Media BAFTAs have not only adhered to the parameters of our new normal but done so in a truly futuristic style.

And it is fair to say that no award show is complete without a decorated presenter at its helm, so, when it came to choosing a host for the red carpet, Rollacoaster’s AW21 cover star Vick Hope was the obvious choice. Joined by fellow award-winning presenter Stacey Dooley, the BBC Radio 1 star is set to grace the red carpet and do what she does best, connect fans and their beloved stars through candid discussions.

But, that is not where the red carpet excitement ends. Joining the radio maverick for the carpet’s commencement is the vibrant cast of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK Season 2, headed up by the season’s reigning champion Lawrence Chaney. And, in a bid to adhere to the public’s obsession with the TV moments that left us speechless, Lawrence, accompanied by Vick (aka the ambassador for Virgin Media’s Must-See Moment Award), will be revealing which moment had the nation talking. With Diversity’s socio-political BGT performance and Bridgerton’s controversial reveal of Penelope as Lady Whistledown gracing the list of nominees for the Virgin Media’s Must-See Moment, this fan-voted accolade is set to be one of the stand-out reveals from the night.

So, during a year in which TV has provided constant and unparalleled comfort, a celebration of its finest displays and the figures that brought them to us is urgently due. And, thanks to the help of the night’s decorated hosts and guests, the 2021 Virgin Media BAFTAs is set to do just that.

Fans at home can watch a livestream of the red carpet and be a part of the glamour by visiting www.virginmedia.com/baftaredcarpet from noon on Sunday the 6th June.
