It can be said that while they are harder to master, it is the unexpected musical collabs that make the biggest impact. Playing with this concept is producer Takis as he joins forces with R&B duo Always Never for his new track “This Feeling”. With the intention of being an attention-grabbing summer anthem to be enjoyed with friends, the track exudes good vibes which are championed by waves of shimmering production brought in by the Canadian musician. And, much like Always Never’s name, juxtaposition is clear as the romantic tones of the duo’s vocals are layered with the track’s synth vibrations and club-worthy beats, resulting in an unexpected yet surprisingly complementary fusion of sounds.
“When I first started working on my debut album called Welcome Home, I wrote down a shortlist of unique artists I wanted to collaborate with. Literally everything from pop-rock to country to R&B artists was written on that piece of paper, and on that list were Always Never,” explains Takis when speaking on his decision to work with the R&B duo. “At the time, I wasn’t sure what my pop-dance production mixed with their R&B vocals would sound like, but I think we were both self-aware enough to know that if it wasn’t effortless and honest, we weren’t going to put it out. We both respect our fans too much to force something. Thankfully we didn’t fear giving it a shot and ‘This Feeling’ came out of it.”
While this particular collab may come as a surprise to some, this is not the first time that Takis has mixed unlikely sounds into his projects. With an ethos built around bringing together diverse minds and hacking from different genres, his former experience as a DJ shines through in his other eclectic works, including the popular track “Wait For Me” which boasts a collaboration with Tory Lanez. And, with “This Feeling” standing as a release from his upcoming debut album Welcome Home, it is clear that Takis and his band of collaborators will be setting the soundtrack for the summer.
