We don’t know about you, but living in 2021 world has been a total whirlwind. It seemed once the world finally slowed down, all we wanted it to do was speed right back up again. If you’re like American singer-songwriter Bre Kennedy, you might’ve felt like you were stuck in a dream, waiting out those bitter, cold nights and counting down the days until it was safe to reunite with our loved ones. It’s enough to make you go mad, so Kennedy put her thoughts to paper, fearing no real progress was being made in the world.

“Last year particularly felt like barren land for making any progress at all, a theme I feel daily in my own career, relationships and life,” Kennedy explains of the track’s message. “Am I too close to this to see that I’m getting anywhere at all? Are any of my efforts making me a better version of myself? Am I doing enough? I wanted this song to feel like walking through that feeling with a sense of acceptance that I may never see how far I’ve come in the moment, and that’s what we have community, family and friends for…”

In her eyes, our chosen family acts as mirrors, constantly reminding us how we’re growing and changing, hopefully for the better. As these horizons broaden, so do your surroundings, be it friends coming and going, places changing, or even your whole outlook on life. Kennedy voices all these ruminations on her new track, a mix of slow and sombre acoustics paired with her raspy vocals. Signalled by a blissful yet eruptive chorus, slowly things begin to get better, and the singer ultimately reclaims her world from the pandemic and all those feelings of doubt and hopelessness.
