It is safe to say that we were all thoroughly disappointed when we heard earlier this year that the Lizzie McGuire reboot had been scrapped – seriously, the thought of Hilary Duff returning to our screens was singlehandedly getting us through the pandemic. But, while it may not be our Disney Channel dreams coming to life, the actress did promises us a comeback of sorts, as she announced she’d be taking the leading role in the upcoming How I Met Your Mother spin-off.
Titled How I Met Your Father, the Hulu show follows Sophie (Duff) as she embarks on a journey to explain to her children the story of how she met their father. Set to feature a band of tight-knit friends and take place during the year 2022 – we are wondering if we are going to be offered any pandemic-inspired one-liners. And, with HIMYM creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas joining as executive producers – the reboot held the promise of big laughs and a dose of nostalgia from the get-go. Something that has only been confirmed by the release of the show’s first official trailer.
With Duff taking centre stage, we are introduced to a modern-day, New York-bound tale of love and friendship as the likes of Josh Peck, Chris Lowell and Kim Cattrall fill the screen of the short clip. With timeless references to the original show making themselves known, including the new McGee’s Pub-esque spot and an apartment, sure to house plenty of drama and comedic events, the reboot is situating itself as one sure to capture the heart of both old fans and new viewers alike.
Heading towards release on January 18th, the trailer has got us on the edge of our seats in anticipation.
