PREMIERE: ELLA ELIZA – “ARE WE STILL FRIENDS?”

The rising star returns with another sample from her upcoming EP.

Teasing us with another offering from her highly-anticipated EP is London-hailed singer Ella Eliza with “ARE WE STILL FRIENDS?”. Leading us in with a brooding heart-pounding bass line, the singer’s smooth and sombre vocals glide over the electro-pop synth melody, before entering a trap-inspired soundscape with an ear-piercing vocal hook. Exploring the difficulty of unreciprocated loyalty and premature goodbyes, Ella keeps honesty at the forefront of this single, as she keeps it real with lyrics such as, “ I wanna know are we still friends / Can we be the same / I wanna know what changed.”

Throughout the single, Ella stays true to her unique blend of R&B productions and pop sensibilities, continuing to blur the lines between contemporary pop music and trap-infused R&B. Revealing to us that the single was inspired by her move to London at a young age, Ella candidly said that it was a lonely experience and this single represents the freedom she claimed back. “Moving to London at the age of 19 I was often faced with battling the contradiction of living in a city of ten million people and still feeling so small and lonely at times,” she explains. “Creating this song was my way of letting go of that anxiety and claiming back my freedom and my independence.”

With her EP set to drop at any point in the next few months, we hoping to see Ella continue to dominate her ever-evolving genre.
