The UK music scene are really spoiling us this week, with the likes of Russ, Tion Wayne and NSG reentering the scene and providing us with some bangers just in time for the weekend. But if there is one release that has been blasting out of our speakers all this morning, it’s south London rapper DC with his new single “Bobby & Rowdy”. Enlisting fellow rapper Knucks, the duo go back and forth and deliver contemplative bars across a genre-bending production filled with elements of jazz, hip-hop and classical sonics. Like a true emcee, DC navigates the beat with ease, working his way through the sprinkles of keys and strings with his hard-hitting and mellifluous flow.
Directed by LX, the accompanying video is a cinematic love-letter to his home town, with subtle references to French film La Haine. “It’s pretty much a story of 3 guys in the hood and the battles and struggles you go through growing up in that environment,” says DC. “I remember watching it and thinking rah this story feels mad relatable, even though it was shot like 30 years ago in another country. Yo, a lot of these things happen today, so it really touched home with me.”
