The Italian fashion house’s AW21 offering is an ode to the world’s most stylish Ice Queens.
It feels like we’ve only just gotten over the hurdle of a London winter, and now Miuccia Prada is sending us sledding straight back through it with her ever-so comfy AW21 collection.
We can’t be too mad about it, if we’ve got to endure the cold, we should at least be able to do it in a selection of pastel purples and slinky knit dresses, right? Concocting her dream ‘Miu Miu Mountain Club’ in a fusion of party-ready fits and full-on ski gear, Prada sends her girls to a luscious landscape in the heart of the Dolomites Alps, with models bravely journeying through the tough terrain in outfits built especially for the task.
We have thick puffer jackets with retro colour blocking, wavy padded trench coats paired with crocheted balaclavas, doubling as face masks when needed, teddy-bear faux fur jackets, and gilets that have been studded and beaded within an inch of their lives. Tan leather gloves and flouncy pink-party dresses are given the same treatment, paired with matching bags, furry heels and the thickest argyle knit socks you’ve ever seen.
Elsewhere are pastel mountain boots laced with flashy chains, gloves longer than the lifespan of a truly seasoned tortoise and more techni-colour knits. Ski suits come in bright sheeny blues and patent beige – which might not stop a polar bear from mauling you to death, but would look absolutely killer gliding down the slopes. She’s even given the girls heels, because snow boots sometimes just aren’t the vibe. I suppose it goes without saying that we want it all, it’s a collection so gorgeous we’d make each piece work, be it under sweaty suns or through hurricane-force winds. That’s the power of good fashion.
