A tale as old as… well, the last year: lockdown breakups. In these tough times it’s no surprise that many relationships were collateral to the global pandemic. But for every five failures, there was a success story; and Alessandro Ciminata was one of the lucky few who saw his love life flourish. Now, the indie-pop maverick has captured these days of bliss in his hypnotic new track “feels like heaven”.
Glimmering with synths and an undulating rhythm, the lo-fi track sees the Italian-born, London-based singer-songwriter directing his striking reverb-blurred vocals into a sonic ode to his love as he croons: “I’m trapped in emotions, coz f*** i’m in love / a daily devotion, my mind’s taking off / feels like heaven, feels like heaven.”
“’feels like heaven’ is about the positive aspects of being in lockdown, in my case is about the pro and cons of a cohabitation with someone I love 24/7,” explains Ciminata. “Lockdown hasn’t been easy for a lot of people but at the end of the day, it hasn’t been that bad either! I expressed my lockdown feelings into this song. ‘Some days I feel alone, some others you’re the only one I rely on’ … I loved spending time with my girlfriend 24/7 but this hasn’t been easy all the time during lockdown! Sometimes, I felt like I needed my own space but at the same time I enjoyed this ‘new life’ and started to miss living with her 24/7 when she had to go back to work. This pandemic really taught me to appreciate the things that I always gave for granted and as an artist, I learnt that it’s our job to bring joy to people’s homes and hearts, in this difficult times, more than ever.“
After a steady rise, with his debut EP “Over and Over” amassing over
145k streams on Spotify, Ciminata is set to release a series of singles in 2021 (starting with “feels like heaven”). And during lockdown, it wasn’t only his love life that flourished, as he also grew a fanbase of over 12k followers on TikTok and 3k on Instagram.
