Showing appreciation for 80s pop star Alexander O’Neal is Edinburgh-hailed trio Liimo with their cover of the classic “If You Were Here Tonight”. Fitting in perfectly with their synth-pop sound, the trio fill the tune with textured melodies, rich vocals and atmospheric productions. Adding their own touch to the tune, the trio bring a modern flair to single, with distinctive robotic choruses and warm synths.

Speaking about the new rendition, the group said, “After reading Richard Russell’s book Liberation Of Hearing and with a mention to Alexander the idea grew from there. We’re big fans of Alexander O’Neal, Hearsay being one of our favourite albums. We were listening to If You Were Here Tonight recently and it resonated so much with how we’re feeling at the moment. Missing loved ones and wishing you could be with them, so we thought we’d put the Liimo spin on it.”

Having gained an impressive 7 million streams for their debut album Volume 1, Kieran, CJ and Jamo have gone to be become one the UK’s most exciting new bands, after gaining support from BBC Radio 1’s Adele Roberts. Their dreamy anthems have topped playlists throughout the year, and with 2021 just around the corner, we’re curious to see what else they have in store.
