MOBO 2020 NOMINATIONS

West London rapper Nines earns himself five nominations and former Wonderland cover star J Hus, Lianne La Havas and Tiana Major9 earn three nods for this year’s MOBO Awards.

After three years of absence, the MOBOs are back and the nominations are out. Hosted virtually this year, the award show will take place December 9th on YouTube, celebrating the best of music of Black origin in the past year. And what a year it has been. From breakout artists such as Shaybo and Ivorian Doll shaking up the scene, and J Hus and Stormzy providing with repeat-button breaking albums, it’s looking like a tough one to call. Earning the most nods this year, is west London champion Nines for his album Crabs in a Bucket, being selected in categories for album of year, best male act, best hip-hop, video of the year and best album (2017-2019).

Fast-rising genre Drill has dominated a lot of the categories this year with the likes of Tion Wayne, Digga D, Abra Cadabra and Loski all receiving nods in various categories. Afro-swing track of the year “Gangsta” by Darko and TikTok hit “Don’t Rush” by Young T and Bugsey are also involved in the mix.

The virtual ceremony will be hosted by DJ and Autumn 2020 cover star Maya Jama alongside entertainer Chunkz, and will feature performances from rising UK heavyweight rapper Headie One, Ms Banks, Tiwa Savage and Koey Radical, with more to be announced in coming weeks.
