Joshua Vides is combining his bold, sketch illustrations with Ballantine’s prohibition past in a limited edition collaboration.
Californian illustrator Joshua Vides has seen, and inked, it all. Having come to prominence over the last few years with his insane sketch graphics and arresting installations, Vides’ bold monochrome designs have perforated all areas of commerce, from pair’s of Nike Air Force’s and Converse to FENDI bags and even baseball cards.
The insane visual artist now has his sights sets on the world of booze, teaming up with the Scotch Whisky specialists at Ballantine’s for a limited edition collab that nods to the brand’s prohibition era past. Vides was particularly inspired by the brand’s historic rectangular bottle, which was re-designed in the early 1920s to fit perfectly inside your standard briefcase as a way to flout the US’ strict banning of alcohol consumption nationwide.
“I’m more than excited to be working with Ballantine’s on my first official bottle,” Vides says of the crazy endeavour. “From the jump the energy has been high and we’ve been able to organically create elements in this project from start to finish. I believe we share a similar drive and determination to create on our own terms. Do it yourself mentality till the wheels fall off.“
Together the two have not only reimagined this Ballantine’s staple with the artist’s signature hand-drawn illustrations and bold graphic flair, but have also conceived a one-of-a-kind comic-book style briefcase which will be dropping worldwide. And this campaign fits perfectly in line with Ballantine’s pulsating, high-energy new comms platform Stay True: There’s No Wrong Way?, which encourages viewers to be the truest versions of themselves as possible. Of course, it wouldn’t be a collaboration by the two without a little party, so to commemorate this iconic endeavour Vides has also created a series of striking spaces where the brand will be hosting a series of events and workshops at pop-ups in cities like Poland and China…
Ballantine’s x Joshua Vides limited-edition bottles will be available from 24th November on Amazon, and keep your eyes peeled on the pair’s socials for a chance to get your hands on the one-of-a-kind briefcase.
