High-school prom feels like a whole lifetime ago. Stressing about taffeta-laced dresses, who’s riding in the limo and of course, finding the perfect date – our heads are already spinning as we recall this. But what if two Tony Award-winning actors were to come and add some extra jazz. Enter Ryan Murphy’s highly anticipated musical THE PROM.
Boasting a star-studded cast including everyone’s favourite Meryl Streep, our go-to driver James Corden, the multifaceted Nicole Kidman and Scandal’s star Kerry Washington, the film takes us through two New York City stars Dee Dee Allen (Meryl Streep) and Barry Glickman (James Corden) whose careers have suddenly flatlined. Elsewhere in the drama, high schooler Emma Nolan (Jo Ellen Pellman) is struggling to get into her high school prom after the head of the PTA (Kerry Washington) bans her and her girlfriend. Hearing the news, the failed actors hit the road in an attempt to give Emma the best prom she could ever hope for.
Filled with more drama, teenage heartache and optimism than High School Musical, the fun light-hearted drama is an adaptation of Chad Beguelin, Bob Martin and Matthew Sklar’s spectral award-winning Broadway musical. Set for release this Christmas on Netflix, pull out your dancing shoes and corsage because the Murphy is taking us to prom!
