PLAYLIST: LOSTBOY

The London-based producer and songwriter curates a playlist of smash-hits for solitude.

We all have those timeless classics you can rely on when you’re feeling down. Perhaps they remind you of a much-needed trip away, a place and time you felt most loved, or even just a cracking night out. Whether you’re craving time alone, Lostboy has just the playlist for you, and the category is… solitude!

The London-based writer and producer has been making waves across the music biz in recent years, exceeding over 500 million streams by putting pen to paper for the likes of Anne-Marie, Becky Hill and Sigala. Embarking on recent endeavours with Zedd and Kehlani for “Good Thing”, or hitting up the studio to co-write with Lewis Capaldi and Liam Payne, it’s fair to say he knows a thing or two about how the biggest names in music are killing it. I mean, if Dua Lipa and Dermot Kennedy are keen on him remixing their stuff, he has to be good!

From Fleetwood Mac-revived Tik Tok classics, to the main character instilling charm of the American Beauty OST, here are Lostboys’ isolation cuts…

Jaden – “On My Own (feat. Kid Cudi)”

The title is a good one to kick this off. Love how dark and brooding this track is. Feels like that first hour being on your own; a bit exciting, a bit uncomfortable…

Neil Cowley Trio – “Slims”

I used to listen to Neil’s music when I was revising for school exams. Always reminds me of being shut in my bedroom alone.. not doing much work.

Moses Sumney – “Lonely World”

All in the title. Moses’ voice is captivating. I love how this song just builds from nothing. Towards the end as it builds this feels like breaking out of isolation.

Emotional Oranges – “Personal”

This track is such a vibe. I also think lyrically it addresses experiences/ emotions a lot of couples face when in solitude together …

Jasmine Thompson – “More”

I love Jasmine’s voice, I find it so soothing. The arrangement of this track is so beautiful and peaceful. It really calms me down.

Fleetwood Mac – “Dreams”

I think it’s so interesting that kids on TikTok are finding this song for the first time and giving it a new breath of life. I think quarantine and the solitude that comes with it often presents opportunities for classics to have a new lease of life…

Franky Wah – “Hide (feat. Robinson)”

Not normally into dance necessarily but love the chords in this; we all want to hide sometimes and this feels uplifting in the way being on your own can do if done right.

Griff & HONNE – “1,000,000 X Better”

Being alone isn’t for everyone. This feels like the moment of being reunited and realising how much you appreciate the people you have in your life. I’m such a fan of Griff, she’s one of the most talented artists I’ve ever worked with.

Thomas Newman – “American Beauty”

Listening to music from film can be a weird thing to do when you’re alone. Classic staring out the window pretending you’re in a movie stuff. Kinda fun though. And I love all of Thomas Newman’s work.

Amos Lee – “Keep It Loose, Keep It Tight”

This track really chills me out, and the lyrics are so nostalgic. A good one to end on as I think one of the main benefits of being alone is it often gives you a good chance to think about the past and reminisce.
