Hailing all the way from Zimbabwe, Bantu is a star on the rise like no other. He’s written for Jason Derulo and French Montana, collaborated with Nicki Minaj and DaniLeigh, and even performed alongside Diplo and Dua Lipa at Fifa 21’s World Premiere virtual show last Friday, debuting his infectious new single, “Leaving” that will feature on the game’s illustrious soundtrack.

Blending an array of infectious sounds and rhythms, this mid-tempo love song asks us to imagine losing someone special. “I think sometimes we get complacent and only realise how much somebody means to us when they say they’re out,” explains Bantu. “So the whole time in the song I’m like, ‘Man, I was tripping, my bad, I’ve just been hustling and didn’t mean to hurt you.’” Still, Bantu doesn’t dwell, well maybe a little, but does so over electro club beats and thumping bass. 2020’s answer to Robyn’s “Dancing On My Own”, told from the other side.

As for the accompanying video, Bantu was keen on creating a one-take style flick, painting a raw and honest picture of a moment where everything’s on the line. The video was self-directed by Bantu in partnership with frequent collaborator James Davis II, the brains behind all Bantu’s other visual work. Conquering so many feats just 3 years since his debut, it’s crazy to think Bantu hasn’t even put out his debut album yet, but he’s in no rush. With all these plates spinning, he’ll sure to be good for an eternity.
