If there was ever a tune to get your week off to a solid rollicking start, it’s the latest offering from Lucia & the Best Boys, “Perfectly Untrue”, aka pure pop euphoria to be listened to eyes closed, body tingling.

The Glaswegian indie-rock outfit have been making waves with their striking and irresistibly catchy tunes – a smorgasbord of nostalgia-imbued melodies, simmering production and atmospheric vocals from frontwoman Lucia Fairful – and “Perfectly Untrue” is no exception.

And the visuals are a sultry dance compilation, showing Fairful hip-swaying in a bedazzled cowboy outfit, or artfully winding Joker-style in punk coats and tails.

“Lucia drives both the bravado and beauty of femininity across vignettes that contain an emotional distortion of reality,” explains the video’s director Rianne White. “We see her transform between a striking contrast of manic caricatures and intimate states of purity and vulnerability.

“The story of Saint Sebastian is a metaphor threaded throughout the visual narrative — piercing Lucia through the chest with an arrow. This symbolic representation of Lucia wearing her emotional wounds as armour, paralleled with the posed smiles and theatrics of the clown, illuminates our own relationship with our need to perform to cope with emotional pain.

“These multiple versions of self appear through glass, reflection and shadows, which further distorts a twisted darker truth of all that is perfectly untrue.”
